Tajogaite the new volcano

Discover the new volcano – now up to the crater rim

Through a guided hike with Gecko Tours, it is possible to enter the danger zone of the last volcanic eruption in 2021 on La Palma (Cumbre Vieja). And now we can get even closer to the still-smoking craters. Accompanied by a trained local guide with special permission, you’ll learn first-hand how the Tajogaite volcano shook life on the island to its foundations, watch lava flow to the sea, and get up close to the sulfur-covered craters. There are two versions available, so you can choose whether you prefer the more challenging circular route, or the easier descent through thick layers of ash to Las Manchas.

  • Circular route: approx. 7 km, about 3.5 hours, elevation change approx. ±300 m (moderate)
    35€ pp
  • Descent to Las Manchas: approx. 6.5 km, about 3 hours, +100 / −600 m (easy to moderate)
    45€ pp
